YOUNG PEOPLE’S BAND
Young Salvationists have been taught to play and enjoy music making for over 85 years here in Chester-le-Street. The Corps history book shows that the Young People's Band had been Carol playing in the Town's market area in the 1920s. From that starting point the band has had an illustrious career of praising God and Evangelizing. "Special" weekend campaigns have been held in various parts of the U.K. over the years, the most recent being in Scotland at the Fauldhouse Corps in October 2005. There are a number of notable musicians and composers who have started their training as members of the Band.
The current group of band members are a very lively and talented bunch of young Christians who can turn their hand to Singing, Drama and a variety of musical instruments in addition to brass. Our current repertoire includes devotional pieces (Divine Right, Message of Love), modern hymn arrangements (My Jesus My Saviour, More than a Song), more up tempo arrangements (Espana, Lift his name), of course Marches ( S. A. , Channel Island Youth) and a number of Band accompanied Solos.
We thank God for our Young People and for those dedicated Christian composers and music arrangers who provide a wide variety of sanctified music for such bands as our Junior Band.
In June our YP Band brought us;
Plus,on the 13th at a Praise Meeting led by the YP Band, they played:
‘Be still’; ‘Promenade’; ‘Three songs of worship’; ‘Righteousness, Peace and Joy’; ‘It’s a great day’ and ‘Jubilee Day’.
