SENIOR  BAND

The Corps Band was formed in 1882 and has given faithful service over the last 128 years.

Over the years it has maintained a good standard of musicianship and, as well as taking part in corps activities, has visited corps in many parts of England and Scotland. It has also, through the years, seen a number of the bandsmen move on to other Corps in the territory, some taking the responsibility of being Bandmasters and in recent years they have seen one of their former Bandsmen become a member of the International Staff Band.

The present Band, although not as large in numbers as in past years, still gives valiant service to the Corps and the community.
Personnel come from all walks of life including school teachers, company directors, company reps., students, secretary’s, postmen, television engineers and a number are retired. Husbands and wives, along with their sons and daughters, are also to be found in the Band.

Their repertoire includes music from the General Series and the Triumph Series. The Band also uses the traditional Army Tune Books as well as band arrangements for Worship Songs from the Magnify and Songs of Fellowship Books.

Christmas is a busy time when they play Carols on the High Street, visit Residential Homes and the Local Hospitals as well as providing Christmas music for local organisations in the Chester-le-Street area. This year, 2009, they will again play in Durham Cathedral as they did last year at Christmas time.

Band rehearsals are held every Sunday afternoon at 4.15pm when music is prepared for the evening Salvation Meeting which commences at 6pm.

In June the  Senior Band played these pieces during our meetings:
